Moroccan squid: what you need to know

Species and fishing grounds

The European squid (Loligo vulgaris) is found all along Morocco's Atlantic coast. It is caught by trawlers and artisanal fishers, especially in the fishing grounds south of Agadir. Its delicate flesh and attractive colour make it a highly sought-after cephalopod on European markets.

Seasons and availability

Like other cephalopods, squid is subject to resource management measures and to biological rest periods decided every year. Volumes vary from one campaign to the next: fast freezing ensures regular availability throughout the year.

Quality and uses

Squid can be supplied whole, cleaned or as tubes, IQF or in blocks. It is ideal for fried rings, grilling, stuffing and ready meals, and is popular with food service, processors and retailers alike.

Frequently asked questions
